Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens

Built in the mid-15th century, the Pitti Palace was acquired by the Medici family in the mid-16th century from the Pitti family and became the primary residence of the Medici in Florence. It is a huge palace in the Oltrarno section of Florence which houses a complex of museums, including the spectacular Palatine Gallery, which primarily includes works by Renaissance artists, and the Gallery of Modern Art, which is composed of works from the 18th through the 20th centuries.
