College Football Upate

Another weekend, another college football update, another 2-1 collective record.

Turning things around not unexpectedly, USC squashed Troy (who?) 45-20. Proving how hard-fought this victory was, Coach Spurrier played a bunch of freshman and a 40-year-old father of six. The Gamecocks are now 2-2.

UMass made it two in a row by beating Rhode Island 14-6. The defense really shined again:

Rhode Island, which came into the game averaging 495 yards of offense per game, was held to 249 by a UMass defense that has given up just one touchdown and 15 points this season.

And with almost 300 yards in the air, it looks like UMass has a decent offense, too. At 3-1, they have the best record of the three.

You knew it couldn't last, and sure enough, Cornell fell to Yale 37-17. Three interceptions by Yale yielded 14 points on the board and led to Cornell pulling its starting quarterback in the third quarter. The Big Red are 1-1, but if they don't get the offense figured out, it's going to be a long year.
