Devo Rocks
Is there a way I could date myself any more than by writing that headline? Probably not, but that doesn't change the fact that Devo is absolutely awesome. "Ain't it true, it's a monumental good thing."

I'm right there with you on this one Eric. But I'm curious what triggered this post? Were you having a Devo tune-fest? Or did some random song trigger this emotion?
As I was looking at options for Election Night, the fact that Devo is playing at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday, Nov. 4th, was weighing heavily in pulling me to Nevada. But sadly, it looks like this trip won't happen. Of course, there's always a chance I'll succumb to the 'Uncontrollable Urge' to be there :-)
As it happens, Chris, I was listening to a little Devo last night.
One of the first albums I ever bought as a teenager (back in the age of vinyl) was "New Traditionalists", which was the result of spending way too much time at the "midnight movies". Back then, you might recall, midnight movies weren't just midnight showings of the current features, but a chance to see different stuff, everything from Monty Python to bad erotica edited down to an "R" rating. And then, of course, there was "Heavy Metal."
I must have sat through that movie half a dozen times. I played the soundtrack constantly for about 6 months. And, of course, I got introduced to Devo, who had one song on the soundrack, and also a cameo of sorts in the movie, as a bar band playing "Through Being Cool." I was a geek, and I was hooked.
Sadly, most of my Devo left me when I abandoned cassette tapes and vinyl for CDs. As with most of the stuff I threw away, I never replaced it. I did, however, buy a "Devo Greatest Hits" CD a few months ago, and it's found a semi-permanent place in the 5-CD changer in my home office. And that's a momunumtal good thing, too.

Y'know the old joke about a guy's younger girlfriend being surprised that Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings?
Mark Mothersbaugh's success post-Devo has surpassed all his Devo-era work in the minds of all those people our age who actually got around to having kids (and of course, for all their kids, as well). For full details, there is, of course:

Mock pop consumerism all you want, but let's face it, when you are most famous for the music in (the amazing) Rugrats, yes, you've sold out.
Whip it good.
