Caledonia for State Cat
There are some political issues that cut across so many deeply-held beliefs that you address them only at great risk. No, I'm not talking about the Republican's assault on Social Security — I'm talking about the effort to name a state cat here in North Carolina.
Should it be the endangered cougar? How about the panther to appeal to NFL fans, or the bobcat for those folks who prefer the NBA? Since all efforts at compromise and inclusion have failed, let me offer those brave state lawmakers another option: my cat Caledonia. She's cute, lovable, alternatively frisky and sleepy, and best of all, she's a local.
So there you have it. I'm happy I could help out. Send me the plaque when it's ready.

A local? More like a carpet-bagger cat the North, right?! Or am I wrong and Caledoina was a NC kitty doing public service in DC?
Hey, she's no carpet-bagger. First of all, Viginia is not the north; second, Caledonia lived in NC before moving to Virginia. Seriously, Chris, the last thing this campaign needs is your Swiftboatian slurs against a good and honorable cat. And when she takes power, you'd better watch your back, mister.
I would vote for Caledonia if I lived in NC. Heck - I'll vote for her anyway. State lines and residency requirements have never stopped me from voting before.
Hmmmm. I dont think Caledonia can be State Cat if she is not a native Carolinian feline. Then again, panthers probably aren't either.
Vote for Godfrey!

I don't know, is Caledonia classified under felis concolor? I say a write in campaign is in order.
