Wish I Had Been There
Fun fun fun at the Carolina-Clemson game yesterday:
Emotions on both sides spun out of control late in the fourth quarter with a sidelines-clearing fight that delayed the game for about 10 minutes before coaches, police and security officers got things under control.
Then again, I'm glad I missed this one, since USC lost 29-7. Looks like the Gamecocks will get a bowl game, though, since they finished at 6-5. And it's expected that Coach Lou Holtz will annouce his retirement on Monday.
UMass also made it a winning season yesterday with a victory over Hofstra , 40-30. The Minutemen ended up in second place in the Atlantic 10, with a final record of 6-5.
Cornell finished 4-6, losing to Pennsylvania 20-14. The Big Red rallied in the fourth quarter, but too little too late. All four wins came in-conference, so Cornell still placed third in the Ivy League.
Update: Apparently the Clemson-Carolina fight was bigger news than I first thought. John Feinstein has some good thoughts about that particular episode, as well as a few other instances of sports violence you might have heard about recently.
