Return of the Dork

Salon's War Room happened upon an odd quote from Senator Rick Santorum (R-ManOnDog) during an interview with the Bucks County Courier Times editorial board:

"As the hobbits are going up Mount Doom, the Eye of Mordor is being drawn somewhere else," Santorum said. "It's being drawn to Iraq and it's not being drawn to the U.S. You know what? I want to keep it on Iraq. I don't want the Eye to come back here to the United States."

It's an interesting moral calculus, really. Iraq is exploding in violence and death, but according to Santorum that's a good thing because it keeps the bad guys too distracted to do any harm to those of us here at home. I'm sure the Iraqis are more than happy to make this great sacrifice for us, especially after all we have done for them.

And what's with the hobbit talk? Is Santorum worried about losing the Middle Earth vote?
